Relapse and Recovery<\/h2>\n

Affleck first entered rehab in 2001. He was sober for \u201ca couple of years<\/i>,\u201d and maintained a regular relationship with alcohol for \u201cabout eight years<\/i>\u201d after that. During his marriage and divorce with Jennifer Garner, however, he began to drink more and more.\u00a0Affleck describes his struggle<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cI started drinking every day. I\u2019d come home from work and I\u2019d start to drink and I\u2019d just sit there and drink until I passed out on the couch<\/i>.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Affleck, this behavior became \u201ca vicious cycle<\/i>,\u201d and he was unable to break it without help. He entered rehab in 2017, achieved a year of sobriety, and went back again after a brief relapse in 2018.<\/p>\n

\u201cRelapse is embarrassing, obviously<\/i>,\u201d he told The New York Times, \u201cI wish it didn\u2019t happen. I really wish it wasn\u2019t on the internet for my kids to see<\/i>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Affleck cites his children as the biggest inspiration for his continued sobriety. He grew up with an alcoholic father and does not want to put his children through the same experience.<\/p>\n

\u201c[W]hat he\u2019s taught me<\/i>,\u201d says Affleck, \u201cis how important it is for me to be sober now during these formative years for my kids<\/i>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Challenges and Continued Success<\/h2>\n

To address his troubled past and revive his career, Affleck recently worked on a sports drama called \u201cThe Way Back.\u201d The film deals with both alcoholism and a crumbling marriage, 2 topics that Affleck is eerily familiar with.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegarding \u2018The Way Back,\u2019<\/i>\u201d Affleck said, \u201cI found it very therapeutic<\/i>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ben Affleck is working hard to get his life and career back on track after struggling with\u00a0alcohol use disorder<\/a>. He is scheduled to star in a series of releases this year, including \u201cDeep Water\u201d with Ana de Armas, \u201cThe Last Thing He Wanted\u201d on Netflix, and \u201cThe Last Duel\u201d with Matt Damon.<\/p>\n
